THE MOVEMENT

Players For Peace is a movement that works as an organized commitment of Goodwill working on legacy projects through the Gol Iluminado Foundation in support of the United Nations Sport for Development and Peace program. This is a dynamic and powerful platform that was created by former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, with the objective to utilize Sport as the conduit and mechanism to implement educational initiatives for children in need and at risk.

"The sporting community has the power to advance humanity and to help ensure that all children everywhere have access to health care, education, protection and equality". 'Elias Figueroa' Chairman - Players For Peace

United Nations – Schools for Global Peace Program

The Muhammad Ali Center along with the United Nations Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict have partnered to create The Schools for Global Peace Program. Through this unique initiative, students learn about the lives of children living in places of armed conflict and explore the importance of fostering peace, understanding, tolerance, and love around the world. “As educators, we know that the future of our world is being shaped today in the minds of our young people – this program opens new avenues for young minds to develop in a spirit of truth, understanding, concern, tolerance and peace,” said Anne-Marie Carlson of the Committee on Teaching about the United Nations.

Upon completion of the program, the participating schools are named Global Peace Schools and each student is designated a Global Peace-Builder by the United Nations Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict. Over 50 schools – approximately 5,000 students – in 15 countries have participated so far.

The Schools for Global Peace program includes additional partnerships with the Women’s Commission for Refugee Women and Children, For Our Children’s Sake, Save the Children, Committee on Teaching about the United Nations, Cyber School Bus (U.N.), and the Jane Goodall Institute.
